Takoyaki powder is a specialized flour mix used to make takoyaki, a popular Japanese street food. Takoyaki are ball-shaped snacks typically filled with diced octopus, tempura scraps (tenkasu), pickled ginger, and green onion.
Instructions for Making Takoyaki
Ingredients:
- Takoyaki Powder: 100 grams
- Water: 300 milliliters
- Eggs: 1-2, beaten
- Octopus: 100 grams, cooked and diced into small pieces
- Tenkasu (Tempura scraps): A handful
- Pickled Ginger: Finely chopped, to taste
- Green Onions: Finely chopped, to taste
Equipment:
- Takoyaki Pan: A special pan with half-spherical molds
Instructions:

Prepare the Batter:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 100 grams of takoyaki powder with 300 milliliters of water.
- Add the beaten eggs to the mixture and stir until you achieve a smooth batter.

Heat the Takoyaki Pan:
- Preheat the takoyaki pan over medium heat. Lightly grease each mold with oil.

Pour the Batter:
- Pour the batter into the molds, filling them completely.

Add the Fillings:
- Place a piece of diced octopus into each mold.
- Add a small amount of tenkasu, pickled ginger, and green onions into each mold for extra flavor and texture.

Cook the Takoyaki:
- Allow the batter to cook for a couple of minutes until the edges start to set.
- Use a takoyaki pick or a skewer to turn each piece 90 degrees. Continue cooking and turning the balls until they are evenly golden brown and crispy on the outside.

Serve:
- Once cooked, remove the takoyaki from the pan and place them on a serving plate.
- Traditionally, takoyaki is served with takoyaki sauce, mayonnaise, bonito flakes, and aonori (seaweed flakes).
